funny rejection letter

I thought this was pretty funny.

The Ultimate Rejection Letter

Herbert A. Millington
Chair - Search Committee
412A Clarkson Hall, Whitson University
College Hill, MA 34109

Dear Professor Millington,

Thank you for your letter of March 16. After careful consideration, I
regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me
an assistant professor position in your department.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually
large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field
of candidates, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite Whitson's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in
rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at
this time. Therefore, I will assume the position of assistant professor
in your department this August. I look forward to seeing you then.

Best of luck in rejecting future applicants.

Sincerely,
Chris L. Jensen

iMac

I've decided I want an iMac. Apple is running this deal right now where when you purchase a computer from them you get a free printer and iPod too. I'm down.

spinach isn't always good for you

I ate a sandwich with spinach in it today. I think I got a piece of spinach stuck in my tonsil.

I Hope It Rains on the 3rd of July

No bike!! I went to four bike shops and I emailed one person on craig's list. One bike shop was closed, one bike shop only had thousand dollar bikes, one bike shop had stoner employees, and the last place was really helpful. I may go back there on Monday to pick up an entry-level mountain bike, I wanted to see the selection at the Bicyclist (the closed shop) first before I bought the bike.

The Launchpad is having its first show since the fire tonight. I'm going. I miss the Lanchpad. It's not summer without shows at the Launchpad. I just wish I had a bike to ride there. Soon.

24 June 2008

bike

I didn't buy a bike last night. I'm having a difficult time spending my hard earned cash. I need a new iTrip because the one I've had for over a year is shorting out. I also need to buy other things.. My Warped Tour ticket. I'm out of my rooster Asian hot sauce. I'm going to go to Smith's now to pick up my Warped ticket. I might come home with a bike too.

23 June 2008

bike and warped tour

I wonder if I should buy a bike from craigs list or if I should just wait and buy a nice bike brand new? Or should I buy a bike from wal mart that might be heavy and all the components might break a week from the time I buy it? I think I might go with the wal mart bike.. Then, maybe in August or September I can invest in a nice bike. I might come home with a bike tonight after work.

More importantly, Warped Tour is coming up. I'm super excited. Relient K is co-headlining with Story of the Year. I'm not completely sure what Story of the Year sounds like. I've heard of them. But I don't remember what songs they're popular for. So, Relient K, Anberlin, Angels And Airwaves, Mayday Parade (!), Valencia, and We The Kings. It's going to be awesome. Plus, I'm going with awesomely special friends.

It Seems Like Yesterday...

Destination: Beautiful by Mae is such a good album. I like it because it reminds me of a good time in my life. I didn't really know who they were when I bought the CD at Best Buy. I think I was just bored that day and decided to go hang out at Best Buy. I do that sometimes. I love hanging out at stores when I'm bored. If it's after 9 or so I'll go to Wal-Mart and just walk around. I'm a really weird person.. Sometimes I weird even myself out. I think that's a very hard thing to do.. to weird yourself out. Anyway, hanging out at stores is fun for me. I like Wal-Mart (or Whore-Mart, as we sometimes call it), Target not as much because I used to work there, but it's still a cool place, I like the electronic stores the most. I can get lost in Circuit City or Best Buy for hours. Most of the time I won't buy anything, I'll consider things, like a video game or a digital camera, or a printer. I usually won't walk out with anything besides CDs though. That's how I got into Mae. I saw that they were signed to Tooth & Nail Records, which is the same label MxPx got started on, so I decided it couldn't be horrible. I put it in my CD player on my way out of the parking lot, and it was a bit more mellow than I expected. I liked it.. It took me a few more listens to love it. But I did. I really loved the CD after Destination: Beautiful, The Everglow. I could listen to that album over and over. I did eventually stop listening to it.. Then Mae came out with a new album--their major label debut. I wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll give it another shot. I wasn't horribly impressed with a few of their live performances either. I really like the band though, and I know it takes a lot of work to keep a band like that going.

Today I went on a hike/trail run with Lee. Well, it was about 20% trail run, 30% hike, 50% enjoying the Sandia's and talking. It is so beautiful up there. We started at the Ellena Gallegos picnic area and went up some trails there. The Sandia's are amazing to me. I love the view of this massive mountain just standing right in front of us.. Then behind us was the view of the city and beyond. The mountain was green from the snow run off and a few rain showers last week. It almost feels fake sometimes. When we were around 30 minutes into our hike we came to a running spring. This was really cool because there was desert not 20 yards from the spring, but by the spring there was an abundance of life. I guess there's an abundance of life in the desert part too, but a different type. More lizards and cactus.

Chicago

I'm going to Chicago tomorrow! I'm pretty excited. I just packed my bag.

Here's a song I like.

03 May 2008

Mayday Parade etc..

I freakin love this band Mayday Parade. I saw them with Emery I think, I may have seen them at a different show.. I thought they were really good, but I didn't get a chance to check out their music after the show right away. Not until I saw that they were on the Warped Tour did I decide to get some of their music. I started listening to them every morning on free.napster.com (which, by the way is freaking awesome). Now I have the newest album on my computer and I'm listening to it non-stop. I really like the first song on the album, Jaimie All Over. In fact I actually spent a good portion of tonight leaning it on my guitar. It's not a difficult song. I got most of it, there's a little solo/bridge section that I need to listen to a couple of more times, then I should get it down. The other song I really like is Miserable At Best. It's a slow piano track. My perfect song formula, slow+piano+nice lyrics=good song for me. Both singers have great voices too. I love the song.

Mix Tape

I made a mix tape. Check it out.

Spring Is Here (And I Love It)

I love spring so much. I love the smell in the air the most. It's funny how smells trigger memory. Tonight the smell in the air reminded me of my first apartment. I remember how excited I was to be on my own. Good times. I'm going to fall asleep with my windows open. Hopefully I'm not lazy in the morning and I can get up early enough to enjoy the beautiful weather before I go to class.

Spring makes me thing of what's coming up next. Summer. I'm looking forward to this summer. I hope I can make it to a bunch of Warped Tour dates. I want to go to Cruces and Denver at least, but if possible I want to make it to Salt Lake and Phoenix...and I haven't checked yet, but if there's a Vegas date I want to go to that too. I want to have a lot of fun this summer. I want to go camping at least once. I want to go hiking a dozen or more times. There are a bunch of things I'm thinking about, things I want to do. I have to think about the next couple of weeks first though.. getting finished with this semester.

I adopted a new kitten. His name is Osker "floofy, floof, floofer, floofarini". He's a really nice cat. I got him from Lee. He's a nice cudly long haired cat (hence the name "floof"). He's been hiding under my bed a lot, getting used to the environment, but he's starting to come out a lot more. He's cool, and I like it when he keeps me company when I watch Conan.

Skateboarding and South Park

Yesterday I was skateboarding home on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and I was going pretty fast. I noticed there was a slight rise in the concrete about a half inch. I thought I could roll over it, but instead my skateboard stopped and I kept going. I wasn't hurt, but the things in my backpack were. My favorite coffee/tea mug was broken! Sucks. I'm forced to get a new mug. This time I'm going to get a more sturdy mug. Maybe one made of metal and plastic and not clay, or whatever this last fragile mug was made of. Also my computer was rattled. The plastic case came apart a little and when i turned it on there was a clicking noise in the speakers. The noise went away when I turned it on this morning. My iPod was okay too. Last time I bailed on my board (the same way in a different spot) my iPod broke. That sucked. I've since stored my baby in a more protected spot. I think from now on I'm going to leave my computer at home. There are valuable South Park episodes to be downloaded anyway. By the way, I don't know what to think about the season opener when Cartman gets aids and gives it to Kyle. I hope the following episodes are better. Jon told me the newest one with Britney Spears kind of sucks too.

24 March 2008

Sport

I've had a sudden burst of interest in local professional sports. My interest in the Isotopes has always been there. But now I found out we have an arena football team. I'm really excited about that. They're called the Wildcats. Their first game is on April 26. I'm going to try and go. I also want to see a Thunderbirds and a Scorpions game. I think the Scorpions season is almost done though.

23 March 2008

Video Games and Music

I'm listening to Metric. I'm happy to be off work. They've been asking me to stay late every day since I came back to work on Friday. It's okay with me. I just have to cut down some of my WoW time. That's fine with me though, I play that game too much. What I really want to do is get a Wii and find out a way to connect it to my lap top. I know there's a way to do it, I've heard of people doing it. I want to get Rock Band and a few other Nintendo classics. I'm excited to get back to school tomorrow too. Spring break was fun--as fun as any spring break could be, but it's nice to get back into my routine.

Today I found a band I really like. They're from the UK. They're called Fastlane and I think they totally rock.

Last night I watched Clay Pigeons. It's a really sweet movie if you haven't seen it. It's about this guy Clay (Joaquin Phoenix) who sleeps with his best friends wife and a domino effect of all kinds of horrible things happen. Then all the bad things get intertwined with this guy Lester Long (Vince Vaughn) and things become even worse for Clay. I don't want to give away and plot spoilers. It's definitely an entertaining movie. You can watch for free legally at hulu.com. Or you can Net Flix it and burn it. If I had Net Flix, that's probably what I would do.

14 March 2008

Arizona

Arizona used to be part of the New Mexico territory, then the territory was split to make the Arizona territory and the New Mexico territory. I think that's how it happened. Anyway, tonight I hung out with my cousin April. She lives in Surprise, AZ. I guess it's a suburb of Phoenix. This city is so huge. We had fun. We went to a bar here in Surprise and hung out for a bit. I sang A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash. Tomorrow I'll put up some pics. I'm on my way so see Jeff in Riverside, CA. I'm having so much fun driving.

10 March 2008

Yay, Super Fun Times

I'm a safe driver I promise. I obey the speed limit and I use my turn signal. I don't have a bad temper most of the time but there are a few things that make me a bit angry on the road, one of those things is when people don't use their turn signal. Another thing is when people forget that pedestrians and bicyclists have the right-of-way. Sometimes people make me angry but most of the time things are good.

Here's a video and some pictures I took while driving. I was talking to my mother on the phone at the same time too. I can steer with my knee really well.

Out at Atomic

I had a chance to try out my new camera last night. Joe and I went to see The Oktober People, sadly we didn't stay to see them. I thought I'd get a chance to see them again, and I was crashing from a high dose of caffeine. We did go to Denny's after and I had a Moons Over My Hammy without the hammy with Boca and a water on the rocks. Before Denny's we saw some really good bands from San Francisco. Birds and Batteries had a really interesting sound. They used a laptop with some beat program that added a really cool electronic element. What I thought was the best part of their show was the lap steel guitar. This guy rocked out on the lap steel too. Low Red Land came up next and they were a rock and roll three piece, the best kinds of bands in my opinion. Their last song was acoustic, and they brought out the accordion, and a banjo for this. It was pretty sweet.

Here are some pictures from the night:

Coffee

Horrible, horrible coffee! Yes, I got coffee from a convenience store at 8:30 in the evening. The coffee was probably sitting there for 12 hours. It tasted horrible!! But the good thing is, twelve hours later it's concentrated caffeine. I'm so wired right now. And I have a bad overcooked coffee taste in my mouth, even after rinsing with Listerine. Good times.

06 March 2008

25 Inches of New Snow

I should be riding a lift up to the top right now. Dang school and responsibilities! I'll get my chance before the season is over (I hope).

Something totally not related to awesome conditions in Santa Fe- I completely support red light cameras. I went to the town meeting last year when the city was voting on it, and my stance on the issue has not changed. People in Albuquerque are horrible drivers and I don't think the police department can keep all of the crazy drivers in check. If we can have constant surveillance on all the roads all the time then I'd be all for that too. The fact is driving is dangerous, and some people like to make it more dangerous. I drive for my job so I have an opportunity to see some not-so-safe driving every day. I feel like the intersections with the red light cameras are safer, and I'm sure there are stats to support my feeling. People think the cameras are taking away their privacy. Maybe that's right, but I'll give up just a little bit of privacy to avoid someone blasting through a red light and killing someone. The governor signed a bill giving all profits from the red light cameras to the state to support DWI enforcement and I assume other highway and road enforcement and maintenance. Maybe he'll put some of that money toward the Rail Runner. I'd be all for that too. Also, the fine is capped at $75. Before it was a $100 first time fine and I think it went up $100 each time. Whatever, fine me if I break the law. I deserve it.

05 March 2008

Colorado Springs

I wish I lived in Colorado Springs!! Yes, Colorado Springs is one of the most mbeautiful cities I've ever been to. That's one reason I'd love to live there, another reason would be all live music. Hit The Lights, Valencia, MxPx... Those three bands alone.
Hit The Lights, by the way, is a freakin sweet band. I just bought This Is A Stick Up...Don't Make It A Murder and I'm loving it!

If You Leave Me Now...

you take away the biggest part of me, oh woo hoo.

That's Chicago. I like it when Butters sings that song on South Park. Funny stuff.

So I miss Velouria a lot. She was my best kitty in the whole world. She was a bit moody when people were around. But I love her. She ran away when I was busy being stupid. I hope she's still alive and I hope she's living with a nice person that feeds her Iams and gives her kitty treats. And I hope she has a nice collar with a bell on it.

I want to get a kitten now that I'm living by myself and things are becoming a bit more steady. It's nice to be greeted by a kitten when I get home from a long day at work. We'll see. I'm going to look into adopting a kitten.

Also, my camera that I thought was fixed isn't really fixed at all. It opens and takes pictures but the pictures have horizontal lines in it. I must have messed something up. I'm not worried though. I was a little disappointed but I figure I need a new camera anyway. I bought a new Sony today online. I can pick it up at Circuit City within the next few weeks. I'm pretty excited. I love taking pictures, and I've been without a good camera for a while now.

03 March 2008

Sony DSC-P73

My good ol' trusty camera. I've had this thing for four years at least. When I was in New York it finally quit on me. The lens wouldn't come out. I was sad, but I wasn't surprised. I figured I got my moneys worth because I've had it so long. Tonight though I thought I'd open it up and see if I could possibly fix it. Sure enough.. it's working. I messed with the gears that bring out the lens. I guess they were jammed. I have an extra screw for some reason, but I'm not too worried. The camera is together and working. I hope I can get a lot more pictures out of this thing.

Music I'm enjoying at the moment:
Phantoms by Acceptance
This Is A Stick Up...Don't Make It A Murder by Hit The Lights
This Could Be A Possibility by Valencia

I finally got internet at my apartment. My WoW account isn't going to waste anymore. I'm going to work here in a few minutes (just waiting for my iPod to finish syncing) then when I get out of work, I'm going to WoW it up like crazy. I'm a level 20 right now and I'm about to level up to a 21. I'm excited.

I love the movie Nacho Libre. Here's a funny screen shot from the movie.

In Reverie

In Reverie is a freakin sweet album. If you don't know Saves The Day I would definitely recommend their music. In Reverie is one of my favorite albums from them.

Also, Windows Calender is a sweet program. I'm kind of liking Vista so far. When I first purchased my computer a few months ago, I was afraid I was going to hate Vista. It's kind of cool. It has a voice recognition thing and I can open programs and dictate text with it. It's not as cool as the voice recognition on the USS Enterprise, but it's a step toward an Enterprise type thing. I just can't wait for the day when the holodeck is invented. Until then, I think it's nice I can talk to my computer (I can tell it secrets) and I can tell it to remind me when my homework is due or when my next exam is. Technology is sweet. Today I was blinded with science.

Only Thing I Know Is Awkward Silence

Settling into a new apartment is awesome. Especially because I'm living by myself. I liked living with all my previous roommates, but it's really kind of nice living by myself. The last time I lived by myself was in '04...maybe it was '03. I can't remember. But it was really nice. I'm enjoying my new place. It's a really interesting apartment too. It's a really old apartment complex, built in 1927. You've heard of a Murphy bed? Yeah, it doesn't have one of those, but it does have a Murphy table. I don't think it's called a 'Murphy table', but it's similar to a Murphy bed in that it's hidden in the wall until you need it. It also has Murphy chairs, and a Murphy ironing board. Another thing, it has this compartment built into the wall that opens like a glove compartment in a car. It's meant to hold a phone and a phone book, at least that's what I assumed it is for because it has a phone book and a phone jack in it. The location is great too. It's about 8 blocks from downtown (movie theater, live music venues, restaurants), and it's about 9 blocks from school, so I can walk everywhere I need to go.

Cat Wake UP

I think anyone who's ever had a cat will appreciate this video.

Emery and Thriller

That's a random video I thought was really amazing. We need to teach the prisoners in the U.S. how to choreograph dance numbers.

I'm exited about the Emery show tonight. I love these guys so much. I've known about them for a really long time, I just never took the time to listen to their music until this past fall. I bought I'm Only A Man (Deluxe) and The Question (Deluxe). Both CD's came with DVD's with a making of the album. I would definitely recommend both albums. Yeah, and the show tonight should be sweet too.

19 February 2008

things and some stuff

I'm totally stressing out right now. I'm trying to find a place to live. Jon was right, moving, getting married, taking care of kids are the most stressful things in a person's life (although I've only experience moving). I found a place by my work that I like a lot. I like it because the rent is reasonable and it has a washer and dryer. I don't like going to the laundromat or public laundry rooms. Kinda lame. To add to my stress, Cova's mad at me because we were planning to get a place together with Dorothy. Nothing worked out. Dorothy didn't like the first places we looked at, then Dorothy bailed on us. Then Cova and I were supposed to look at this really sweet place up on Alameda but I fell asleep and couldn't look at it. Besides, I think Alameda would be a bit too far for me. So finally I decided to get a place by myself. I can get a kitty, and I can play my music and my guitar and no one will complain about it. I only want to be settled into a place. I hate this transition.
